Quick DVI-D/DVI-I question

Can a DVI-D cable and monitor, plug into a DVI-I video card? DVI-I supports both analog and digital and DVI-D is digital only. So wouldn't it make sense that a digital connection works with a connection that supports both? Some people are giving me conflicting info and I need to verify this.

Other questions:
The monitor is DVI-D: Would a DVI-I cable work?
The monitor is DVI-I: Would a DVI-D cable work?

I guess my question would be, what setups are impossible, and which aren't?

Any source to backup an explanation would help me a lot.

You can connect a DVI-D cable to a DVI-I connector.

But you can't connect a DVI-I cable to a DVI-D connector. The reason is the 4 extra pins on the DVI-I cable, and also because the '-' shaped pin is longer on the DVI-I cable than in the DVI-D one.

:)

So, DVI-D monitor, DVI-I cable, nope.

DVI-I monitor, DVI-D cable, yup.

And here is a very nice source to back up my explanation.
