Quick DVD Burner Question

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if DVD-RW drives use a different laser for both dvd burning and cd burning? I recently bought a Sony DW-Q30A from Newegg. It lists it as an SCSI device in my device manager and nero gave an error abotu SCSI when I tried to burn when I tried it(as well as getting errors with DVD Shrink and Alcohol 120% when trying to burn) but I just tried to burn a CD-R and it turned out fine.

I tried again and the exact errors are:

SONY DVD RW DW-Q30A
SCSI Command Aborted
SONY DVD RW DW-Q30A\H0 T0
Writing Short Lead Out
Burn Process failed at 8x (11,040 KB/s)
 
And you do have the updated drivers and firmware on the drive... Have you tryed uninstalling it and reinstalling it...
