ATI RADEON AGP 32MB DDR - $161.35
ELSA Gladiac AGP 32MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS GPU NV15 -$159.10

They're about the same, need to pick one. I realize they both perform well, the GeForce2 has better drivers, the Radeon has better image quality. Quick decision?

ATI Radeon at buy.com for 162-30 coupon = $132

I'd say it depends on what you're looking for, if you want pure gaming FPS then go for the Geforce, but if you want to play in 32bit color then go for the Radeon, if you want linux support, good win2k support then get the Geforce. If you're into good image quality and DVD hardware then get the Radeon.

All depends on what you're looking for.

Either way you're getting a good card.

EDIT: I can't do basic arithmatic

Any idea how the Radeon 32MB DDR does in Half Life? It's 16bit by default and forced 32bit can be buggy.

Guilty:

It does just fine. Half-Life is not a very video card intesive game though since its speed relies more on whether or not you have a fast CPU. I have never tried 32bit color in Half-Life since I never saw the need and I heard it was a little buggy.

Overall I am finding the Radeon to be a good card. Reportedly newer drivers are coming soon that should help performance and help compatibility in win2k and other "alternative" OS's. If your going for raw FPS and fillrate the GF2 is a good choice. I went for the Radeon because I wanted better image quality, I liked the fact that it will, when newer DX8 drivers are released, do some DirectX8 features in hardware. It also has some other nice features which will help with future games with higher poly countslike the 3rd pipeline and HyperZ. That only matters if you plan on keeping your card a while, which I do. Maybe next christmas NVxx and Radeon II (maxx?) will be as much as the GF2/Radeons are now making it another happy christmas :)

I agree with Mule. The Nvidia cards have slightly better driver support and more FPS, but the Radeon's image quality is waaaaay better...2D and 3D. I just replaced my Gladiac with a Radeon and I love it. It even works wiht Win2K..no problems. They overclock well too, I have mine at 201/201(402).

I'm not concerned with insane frame rates, rather something fast enough to produce liquid video in large sceanes and runs decent on a MSI K7T Pro2A, Win98SE/ME. I think I'm going to get the Radeon because it's newer, the Gladiac was one of the first GeForce2's and it didnt have a chance to use all the possible features.

The Gladiac is one of the best, if not THE best geforce 2 gts. They all perform so similarly that it's pretty much a moot point. The Elsa has better 2D than the other gts's. Also, if you are going to be using the card for TFC/CS definately go for the GTS, i've used both the radeon 32DDR and GTS 32DDR on the same cpu and the GTS outperforms the Radeon by at least 15fps at all times. If 2d is very important to you, and you are a casual gamer the Radeon is for you.

Ben, I would like to know what game you got 15fps better in. If its Quake3 I don't really give a damn. There is more than one game to benchmark by today.

IMO, 3d image quality blew me away when I first picked up my Radeon. I thought I would return it to the store the same day, but I didn't and I've been impressed with it since. I have yet to find a game the runs it into the ground consistantly and its just so vivid :Q

This card restored faith in me that ATi can compete. I'm just praying for better Win2k drivers :p

Either way, not a bad card. I prefer the Radeon(hence my nick ;) )
