quick DDR question :)

Hey any of you guys know if its ok to put like a 2100 Kingston DDR stick with a 2100 Crucial stick on the same board? I'm new to the world of DDR so I'm not sure if its ok 2 of the same kinds of RAM come from 2 different companies. Thanks.

as long as theyre the same type with same specs, ie 2x pc2100 cas2.5 or 2x pc2400 cas2 there is no problem whatoever in running different companies rams together! 🙂

I don't think they even have to be the same spec, but realize that it'll run at the lower spec if you mix.

"really, theres no reason why youd wanna mix in the first place...! "

Sure there is. Say you buy a system with PC2400 then you keep it for a while and decide you need more memory but PC2400 is now hard to find and slightly more expensive because manufacturers have stopped making it. You buy some PC2700 and plop it in letting it run at PC2400 spec.

Pricing and availability is a perfect reason to buy RAM and run it below spec. (Hence why alot of ppl [incl. myself] are running PC133 at PC100)

ah thanks. The issue was I need some hefty rendering power for graphics and bought 2 256 2100 blocks from Crucial, and just discovered Kingston sells 512 blocks for pretty affordable now (which crucial doesn't have at all). I'm gonna get it hope its ok.

ah dont worry about it!

just be sure to tweak your ram settings to make them run at their full speed!
