Quick Auto / Ricer question........

My friend just got a 98 Spyder convertible with the turbo 4 cyl. What are some good sites that sale performance parts for the Spyder?

I presume you're talking Eclipse Spyder, right? They're pretty rare, I've only seen one or two ever.

I suspect most of the performance sites are going to be geared for the GSX, the AWD is a definite plus.

im an eclipse worshipper, there is no GSX spyder...

spyders are not rare?? maybe just around your area. anyhoo, they have 8g turbos...try getting an aftermarket 16g. will help some of the lag.

gsx were the rare ones, but again, no convertible gsx made. unless he has a gst spyder, then you are working with a SOHC. the GST had the DOHC...

All I know right now is it is a 1998 Spyder convertible with turbo 4 cyl. He didn't like the new Eclipse's so he searched around on the Internet and found this one. It looks good and only has 30k miles. All leather with Infinity sound system.

BTW a 16G would generally increase lag, not decrease it. It is a larger turbo, which means it takes more time to spool up.

hmm....i looked it up youre right...it will increase the lag...wonder why now we were told that at the shop.

the only turbo spyder is the gst.

so he has a gst.

edit: second generation eclipse...watcht the electrical system...i had a ECU die on my eclipse...twice. jet does great upgrades for stock ecu's..i heard ood results on modded eclipse ecu's...again as long as it doesnt die. and you gotta be without an ecu for a couple of weeks.

With all Turbo cars, make sure he getes a TURBO TIMER! This is not a performance upgrade, it will simply increase the life of the turbo.

I'd do lots of suspension upgrades on that. Upgraded struts, springs, shocks. Also, get a boost controller. That can help a TON.

Are there any replacement/slapon ECUs for it? I'd check into that also.

I'm well aware there are no GSX Spyders, that's why I said what I did. As far as I'm concerned the GSX is the only serious performer out of the Eclipse line. Thus if you want performance over style the Spyder wouldn't be your first choice.

As for the number of Spyders vs. GSX's, I've seen a lot more GSX's than I have Spyders. It could very well be just Oregon, though, as convertibles aren't exactly the most practical in the state of perpetual rain.

ya... i remember when i bought my 2g eclipse, the gsx were impossible to find, i had to travel to alabama if i even wanted to look at one.

i settled for a cheap RS knowing i wouldnt need it long, that was 3 years ago.

edit: are we talking the same thing?? the spyder was labeled on all the convertibles...they made about the same # of gsx as integra type r's. both the gs & gst sypders were availble, pretty common around here?

edit#2: ok, yeah, oregon thing makes more sense...then again id rather live their and lose the convertible option...damn houston heat.

Since I have everyone on the subject of performance mods. What can I do without to much cost on my 2000 Accord EX V6 Coupe?

strap a blower or turbo on it.

only a small $2000-2500 installed and you'll get 50% more horsepower.

i'm bout to order a turbo kit in a few minutes. 17psi of boost 🙂 yummy.

heres what ur buddy needs to get for his Eclipse GST Spyder:
intake
fat exhaust atleast 2.5" piping from the cat back
BOV- Blow off Valve
boost controller - there are both manual types and electronic types
bigger intercooler

check www.groupbuycenter.com they usually have the best prices on parts

for your V6 Accord, check into a Comptech header, its kinda pricey, but adds a healthy 30HP to the wheels, also check out an AEM cold air intake, and a greddy cat back exhaust. You will be set
