So I have a few questions, is it ok for a DVD Rom drive to use an 80 wire IDE cable instead of a 40 wire IDE cable? And also one about partioning:

So I want to have three partions, one for Windows and all Windows Updates i'd like it also so it'll automatically put the update in the partion of windows XP. The second I want for drivers. And the third is for Games/applications/programs/all my files. How do I do this? I have a Western Digital 74 GB raptor 10,000 RPM

first question: yes, its fine.

second question: i would do it this way. when you first install windows, delete the current partition (if there is one), and then specify a certain size partition you want to install windows onto. then, when you're in windows, you can create partitions for the remaining space (i forget how tho).

Well I just got the hard drive from newegg so I assume there are no partions on it. How can I creat partions, i've heard of something called partion magic, where can I get this? Is it good? And how do you work it?

Ok thanks!!! Will Windows Update automatically update in the WIndows partion though?

it will just update your windows installation, it doesnt matter what partition its installed on.
