Hey guys, i would like to kno what a Realisic minimum ps for a BFG tech Geforce 6600GT OC, on the site it says i need 350, but that seems like a bit much, what do you think i could sucsessfully get away with without risk of problem, the rest are my specs are as foolows.

P4 2.6ghz HT
BFG Geforce 6600GT OC
1gb of kingston ram
Sound blaster audigy
Asus mobo

Please keep in mind that i would like to kno the minimum wats that i could get away with without risking ruining my computer

also i would like to kno if a 2 year old HP windows media center edition PC with the above specs minus the 6600 and with a geforce fx 5200 instead would have a 600W ps, because i was told this by a friend and i frankly kno that that is probably impossible as most HP computers have small not so good ps's

The system probably wouldn't use more then 250w. However, you shouldn't go that low. I would recommend getting a quality 350w unit at least. Fortron sells very nice units for cheap.

HP wouldn't put a POS 600w in a PC and they wouldn't have some really good high-end one either. I am guessing it is a low wattage, yet good quality unit.

Are you trying to keep wattage or price down?

Are you trying to figure out if you can stick with your existing power supply?

Check this calculator here:
http://www.extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp

Add about 75-100 watts onto your "max load" wattage psu for overhead.

When it comes to minor setups, you can get away with a lot less wattage, but you need at LEAST 20amps on the +12v rail if you're going to run a 6600GT with a P4, 25+ should be what you're aiming for.

Im not trying to keep anything down, just learning, also how much do you think the 6600 would take (wats) all by itselve?

Plz bookmark this site and knock yourself out :)
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gpu-consumption2006.html

Remember, the single most important piece of hardware inside the case is the PSU.
Lack of stability can/will kill HDDs=fact. You need not over spec the PSU, just get a
decent unit, like from the FSP Group. Buy nothing produced by CWT.

The three pieces of hardware most hold onto the longest are the display, case and PSU.

Edit: Okay, 48 watts at stock. I was close.

Actually the OP said "BFG Geforce 6600GT OC." I don't know what it's clocked at, but the overclocked 6600GT in the link I posted consumed 50.96. So you could be right. ;)
