Questions regarding new system

I'm in the process of buying a new system (mainly gaming rig), but I can't make my mind up regarding what setup to use.

My budget will allow me to either get an EX6800 and one Radeon X1950XTX or a C2D E6700 and two Radeon X1950XTX's in Crossfire mode.

Which setup would make the PC last the longest? The more powerful CPU or the more powerful GPU?

I'm really hoping ATI still releases an Intel version of RD600. If they do I will probably be upgrading to a C2D mob/CPU and some crossfire goodness.

But that does not answer your question. If those are your choices I would just get the 6800 and a single GPU. A replacement GPU will be out before a replacement CPU.

I'd save the money and get a single X1950XTX and a 6700. Look at the performance increases going from the 6700 to 6800 and then look at the price difference.

I'd love to see a full debate on this subject. I have an old system (my friend calls it a dinosaur :Q). I'd like to build a replacement. But I hate the idea of building something that gets obsoleted a few months afterwards. Subjects that I think a lot would be interested are
Whether Quad core is worth a wait for most?
Whether DX10 is worth a wait?
How long should one wait before considering Vista?

A lot of people aren't going to spend a bunch of money on a component like V-card only to replace it in a few months (others on the other hand probably do it all the time so these kinds of questions are directed at them)
