Alot of people i know in college take addy to help them focus. Anyone know exactly what they do other than stimulate ur central nervous system. I know you get real thirtsty and lose your appetite but what else? Does it speed up ur metabolism? Do girls take it to lose weight? I'm really interested in finding about this from a physiological/medical perspective. Can anyone shed any light?

I get prescribed Adderall XR from my psychiatrist to help with my ADD.

I'll tell you what it does to me. I take 30mgs in the morning. I do not get hungry for breakfast or lunch. I usually eat dinner though. It does not make me thirsty however I do keep water around throughout the day. It does not speed up your metabolism as far as I know. How people lose weight on this is they just do not eat. If you don't eat your body doesn't have anything to burn. If this continues for a week or whatever you start to see pounds drop off real quick. The side effect only lasted when I first took the Adderall. Now I can eat and get hungry like I always did.

Do you think you may suffer from ADD/ADHD? Do you want to take this because it will make you do your homework? If it's the latter, forget about it. This stuff is prescribed to people who are ADD/ADHD only. You'll go through series of tests from either a psychologist or a psychiatrist or even your school's medical center.

If you have any other Qs please feel free to ask me.

You : "Doctor, I can't concentrate in my classes! I can't sit still and just don't feel like doing anything productive!"
Doctor : "Why, you must have ADD! Quick, take some drugs and spend more time on your tests."
You : "Thanks Pill Popper, M.D."

Have you been through the adult diagnosis tests?

The tests are a fricking joke. Anyone can "pass" the tests to be pronounced positive for ADD if they wanted.

"Do you have difficulty concentrating?"
"Yes."
"Do you tend to daydream a lot?"
"Yes."
"Do you have trouble following conversations?"
"Uhhh....what?"

I was prescibed adderall in high school.
I don't have ADD.

If you don't have ADD, adderall is basically speed.
I used it for many months before realizing it changed my personality drastically.

Yeah, they are a joke. I was diagnosed with ADD/HD andf OCD at the age of 8. I was on medications until I was 14. Now that I have started college and actually need to pay attention for more than 30 seconds, I thought about going back on them. The doctors, of course, wanted to retest me. Basically, it was about 100 questions on a 5 point scale. I answered 2 on almost everything. The doc scored it and said I didn't need it.

Of course, the obvious question is, if I have been living with this my entire life, how the hell would I know what to answer?
