Questions\problems with ink refill

I have a Xerox workcentre 470 and I got a refill kit for it. The first time I refilled it, I had problems getting it to work which I think was due to the fact that the cartridge got too empty. I performed the mantainance functions, such as cleaning the prints heads and dabbing the cartridge with a damp cloth, and got it to work.

I just refilled it a second time, and I got the same problems. I think this time I was more careful about not letting the ink completely run out. I tried the same maintainance functions, but I can't get it work. Also, sometimes I get a message that says the ink is empty even though I just refilled it. I never got this before. I just have to take out the cartridge for a while, and then it detects it, but still doesn't work.

Is there a way to get the cartridge to work? I just filled it with a load of ink, I don't want to throw it out. I can't find a generic cartridge for this printer either. I don't want to have to by a retail cartridge.

The problem with this is that the cartridge has a chip on it that sends a signal to the printer itself telling it that it's empty, sometimes there are ways of tricking the printer into believing that it's a new cartridge you installed....I am not sure about that printer but I bet you can find something on it if you google it and research a bit.

Oh really? I thought that was only with Epson printers. I did a search on it, but can't really find anything.
