I posted this earlier in the General Hardware forum but did not get any replies.

I'm thinking about buying a T42 with 1.8Ghz CPU, 512mb RAM, 60gb hdd, and Mobility 9600 64MB video card. I can get it for about $1900CDN before taxes.

One neat thing is that the laptop hard-drive is 7200rpm, whihc I think is a fairly new development in laptops.

Anyway, my questions are:
1) is this a good deal for hte price?
2) can I play modern games on this laptop? Games such as Half-Life2 or FarCry?

Thanks

You really should take this to the other forum.

But, I will say that I am a T42 owner. My machine is very similar to yours, except it was purchased last summer and has the 1.6.

Great little machine, rock solid, great construction, best laptop I have ever owned.

Thinkpads are more for business type environment. Games like Half-Life 2 won't run great with a video card like that.

I have a t42P. I think it's the best laptop ever and I play games on it all the time. Good luck.
