I have an Athlon XP 2000 - not overclocked, with a Thermaltake Volcano cooler. Using Sandra2004, my board temperature is 57 C and my CPU temp is 49 C under a fairly low load. These seem pretty high, but until recently, I never paid attention to what the temps were. Any thoughts??? What are typical temps for the board and CPU? At what point should I be worried?

the board temp should never be higher than the cpu temp. i think the sensors are set wrong

anyway, under 60 full load is ok

if u are really concerned you may want to invest 19.99 for a slk900 @ SVC, which is practically the best amd heatsink you can buy
 
57 degrees sounds more like the diode temp. (don't know if a 2000 has diode sensor like 2500+) Before I upgraded my hsf, I was getting 51 socket and 57 - 61 degrees at the diode under heavy load.

I don't think you are in any trouble, but check for any dust that may have collected on your hsf.

I am also of the opinion, that if you never looked/cared before and never had issues like random crashing, you are fine. Even a temp above 60C is within spec, so your temps are only "high" by some people's scale, and not so high by AMDs scale. In short, if you aren't having problems. Don't worry about it. For the most part, I don't even know what my temps are.

I havent had any crashes, but games seem sluggish. Normal apps seem fine. I cleaned the fan, cpu, and re-applied arctic silver and the fan. I didnt see any noticable change in performance or temps.

Sluggishness is not a usual result of heat. If you had heat issues, you'd be fragging along one minute and rebooting the next. It is more likely to be a problem with the games you are trying to play and your hardware or the number of other things you have running. What are your specs? What games are you having trouble with? Perhaps we can help ID the problem.
