I don't know if this is the same issue, but I remember reading lots of complaints about hissing when the z-5500s came out (like a couple years ago or whenever) and then there was a new revision of them and the complaints really died out about the problem.

Maybe yours are an older revision or something?

Do thay have a manufactered date on them anywhere?

If you search in the archived threads for hiss and z-5500s you might turn up more info.

no, mine is the revised version with the regular speaker wires... It's not a hiss, just VERY faint (need to be about 4 inches to hear it) white noise. I checked my home theater in a box setup upstairs and they do the same thing. My cheap H/K speakers do this too.

Well, I guess if you're planning on having the speakers more than 4" away from you, then don't worry about it :)
