questions concerning my PC's IRQ assignments

I have noticed my PC's IRQ assignments, in particular my vid and nic IRQ's. Both are shared right now with one another.

I have noticed less than stellar perfomance from my machine and I am guessing this could be the issue? The computer isn't reporting any conflicts. What do you all suggest?

Here are my current IRQ assignments.

0 system timer
6 floppy controller
8 CMOS clock
9 ACPI
12 mouse
13 Numeric data processor
14 Primary IDE
12 Scondary IDE
3 Nvidia PCI management
17 VIA 1394 controller
18 Marvell Yukon Gigabit controller
18 Vid card (7800GT)
20 USB host controller
21 Network bus enumerator
21 NVIDIA SATA controller
21 PCI to USB controller
22 SATA controller
22 Nvidia audio codec interface

That seems fine. What type of "stellar" performance are you expecting?

Windows will automatically assign the IRQ settings. If there is no conflict, no BSOD's, then it really should be left as is. As Oyeve asks, what steller performance are you looking for? If your PC isn't up to the performance you are expecting there can be many reasons for this, but IRQ's really don't come into the equation other than if conflicts are shown on the IRQ level.

IRQs are okay to be shared and meant to be able to. Don't mess with them, this has the potential to seriously screw up a system. Unless badly written drivers or genuine hardware bugs are present, IRQs are never an issue.

EDIT: It doesn't appear you are using any PCI cards (unless your firewire is), so my post will
have little relevance.

If you have some older PCI cards, you might have some problems with IRQ sharing. I had
a NIC that performed pitifully while sharing. The only thing you can really do is try your
PCI cards in different slots. Many boards will show what the IRQ assignments before
Windows boots. There is where the pause/break key comes in handy. I would test the
different slot placements before windows boots, otherwise windows will assume you are
installing new hardware and reload the drivers. If you know what the hardware interrupts
for your board are, then you can predetermine what slot shares with what.

If there are no problems don't worry about it. The days of Windows 98 are over. IRQs are generally automatically assigned by the BIOS (IO-APIC).
