Questions after putting zip drive on IDE controller card

I installed a SIIGS controller card because my zip was locking the PC up. So now the CD-RW is by itself as master on the secondary IDE and the zip is master on the PCI controller card (by itself).

My questions are:

1) How can I get the PC to eject the zip from the right-click menu for the zip drive?

2) Can I get it to automatically open explorer for the zip when I insert a zip disk? The auto notification upon insert option is grayed out in the zip Properties.

3) Can I get the PC to automatically eject the zip disk upon shutdown?

2) Don't know

3) Don't think it can.

Solution, put you zip drive as a slave to the cd rw and everythng should work fine.

I have a problem with a zip drive on an IDE controller also. It won't detect it at all. It just looks and looks and looks for drives on the controller cards and doesn't find it. It's an IOMEGA 100mb. Any ideas?

If I remember rightly, all the features should be available after you install Iomega's IomegaWare. Go to here and download the corresponding driver for your operating system.

Don't worry if your zip drive is not made by Iomega, the drivers should still work okay.

my zip works fine on the promise ata100 card in both win98 & XP & that's without installing any IomegaWare.

What chipset do you have?

There are some issues with Via controllers. I have Via 686 B as my southbridge chip and I had to download
a patch (on Iomega's website) to correct the problem.

The problem was sytem lockups/hangs when trying to copy/write files. Maybe that's what was causing the
original lockups?

As for the other things, I downloaded the Iomegaware and it allowed me to do all the things you are asking
about. That software should do the trick.

Check the jumper on the drive and make sure it's set to slave(unless you want it as a master). I have also
seen where the zipdrives do better on the secondary IDE controller. I have mine set as slave on the
secondary IDE controller (DVD-rom is master).

Also, check to see if you have the newest drivers for your chipset. Recent drivers from Via have corrected
some compatibilty problems w/ atapi zipdrives.

Edit : Oops! Sorry, Crazychicken, I read your post wrong. I didn't realize you were talking about a
controller card. I know the zips do work with them. Try getting the latest drivers.

So does mine, under Windows 2000. Under Windows 98, I needed IomegaWare to get it to eject disks when I shutdown.

I've installed trhe latest 4-in1 driver from VIA.

I'll give it another try; haven't re-installed driver since adding the IDE card.

I HAD it as a slave on the secondary IDE controller and that is where the problem was. That's why I put an IDE controller card in.
