Hi,

I'm just about to send a hard drive to a friend of mine. I have Win98SE and she has Win98. I wanted to make the hard drive upgrade as painless as possible for her, so I thought I'd format and partition the drive for her.

Now.. If I partition and format with a Win98SE floppy, will she be able to install the OS off of that or will she have to go in and format/partition the drive again with a Win98 floppy?

I guess my question is this: Is the Win98 and Win98SE boot floppy interchangeable between versions of Win98?

I've seen a couple of things where a boot disk was specific to Win98SE and Win98 and I've seen other disks that claim to work for 95 and 98, but not SE.

Can anyone give me some certainty here on what will work?

TIA,

Sal

I wanted to know if you could boot Win 98 with a 98SE boot disk and visa-versa? I'm pretty sure that this girl has 98 and I have 98SE. I just wanted to make it as easy as possible for her by fdisking and formatting the drive and then giving her a Win98 boot disc.

I ended up downloading a boot disk that says can be used for Win95/98. I'm guessing that covers 98SE as well since there was no 98SE listed.

Anyway.. Thanks for the reply.

Have your friend get Symantec Ghost off of Kazaa and instruct her to install the sent hard drive in her computer along with the existing drive and clone her new hard drive.

this is not a warez forum.

salvador - yes, the disks are interchangeable. I dont remember what the difference was, but it is minimal (i think the menu looks different or something). for that matter, almost everything is. you can grab system DLLs from 98 to use in 98se and vice versa if you really need to.
