i was wondering... if you were to set up the cpu cooler on a water-cooled system so that the chip was in contact with the water (and only the chip, none of the metal or anything), would it work without screwing anything up, and would it increase the cooling?
 
It has been done before, although I can't find the article at the moment. The benefit over using a regular water block is actually quite small.
