Questions about videos on Putfile & Google

I was looking for the video for Leroy Wells on American Idol (Can You Dig It?) and the Ashley Simpson SNL screw up (& the Benny Hill edit version) on putfile and google video, but didn't find them. Is that just because after so long without activity, they're auto deleted, or deleted because they were copyrighted? I couldn't find a time period on google for how long they keep their files. Is there one?
Google says they don't allow copyrighted videos, but aren't there a bunch of commercials, clips from Family Guy and other TV shows? I know putfile has them.

Anyway, if these files weren't there, I was going to upload them. Bad idea?

Also why do the videos here always play in Flash instead of WMP (or whatever your default player is)? What's the point when they're all regular video files and not Flash files? That leaves no possible video adjustments (I often want to turn up the brightness).

And why does youtube.com always default to playing videos at the middle resolution setting, even if it's larger than what the video is supposed to be, so it's real blocky? Google Video used to do this, but doesn't seem to anymore.

BTW, I almost put this in Video, but seems usually more video hosting talk is in OT.

they probably only take down copyrighted material that is brought to their attention.

the videos play in flash because that's how they have it set to play.

defaults to middle res probably to conserve bandwidth.

ok, do you mean it loads the full video anyway, and uses a lower res? if so... no idea. they're on crack maybe?

Have you never tried it? What I mean is that there are three difference sizes you can make the video playing area, all using the same file. It always defaults to the middle size, even if the video is originally a smaller size, so it blows it up making it look terrible.

Heh. I'll accept that.

yeah, that's what i mean. i only tried it on google video... it was a theory.. i had no way of really proving that's what they did. I would assume so because reconverting everything would be too intensive i would think, even for google. just rename the downloaded files from gvi to what they were before, works as is.

i don't think they'll ever tell us why
