hello. i have a few questions. i have an HP zv 6000 laptop that is about 2 years old and was
thinking about just upgrading the hardware instead of buying a new computer. my current set up is a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ running at 2.4 ghz (and a 512 KB cache speed), i have 1 gb of ram and an 80 gb hdd. i was thinking about upgrading to a dual core processor of about the same speed (2.4 ghz) but i lack the technical knowledge of the hardware to just go out and pick a new processor. i do know that the processor is a 939 pin and i would have to use another AMD processor. i was needing to know what exactly to look for when trying to find a processor that is similar to the specifications i have given you.

also i was wondering what to look for in a good upgrade to the ram as well. i was thinking about upgrading to 2 gb of ram. i have 2 512 mb things of ram right now so i would have to get 2 1gb things of rams as an upgrade.

please help.

As far as the CPU goes, assuming that the BIOS will handle it, then you should be able to drop in any X2 Socket-939 CPU, like an X2 4200+ at NewEgg for $60-odd dollars.
As for the RAM, I dunno, take your pick of DDR1 1GB DIMMs. AMDs aren't too picky about RAM, just avoid Centon-brand RAM, I've found it to be incompatible with AMD CPUs. I've used PNY 1GB DIMMs and Kingston HyperX, both with great success.

i looked on that on that newegg website and was wondering which one of those processor would be good. i do like the price of the 4200+ processor though. a friend was telling me to look at the cache when looking for a processor because it will affect the the speed of the processor.

also do you happen to know what kind of ram my computer uses (model # mainly) and approximately how much it costs.
