I have been wanting a PS3, i have the money for it. I do not know if i should get one or not. Ive only played my wii to beat zelda: twilight princess twice and i dont know if ill still use it. I have been thinking of trading it + cash for 20, 60, or 80gb PS3.

Is it worth it for all of you who have a PS3?
Are there any good RPG games coming out for the PS3?

please if you have answers i would greatly appreciate it

I was in the same boat somewhat recently and was looking to trade my modded wii + a bunch of accessories for a PS3 as well. My wii collects dust and there aren't too many games coming out that I care for.

But then I saw this deal here and now that my visa came today, I'm going to purchase one at the Sony Store:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2081072&enterthread=y

$350 for a 60gb PS3 + 5 Bluray movies - that's a good deal.

However keep in mind the PS3 isn't that great right now game wise. But I know I will eventually want to get one and I would rather get one right now because after the 60Gb are gone, there will be no more with the EE chip in them so the PS2 library won't be as compatible with the newer ones. Here are a few other things, other than just PS3 games, that I am going to use my PS3 for currently until more games come out.

- BluRay player - I don't have any HD movie player so this will be a neat addition.
- Upconverting DVD player - I currently use my Xbox360 as my primary DVD player, so now I can use this and will have better quality.
- HDMI input - My Xbox360 doesn't have HDMI output on it but my TV does, so now I can finally use that slot onmy TV and see if it really makes a big difference or not.
- PSN - I'm really REALLY looking forward to playing Mortal Kombat 2 online :)

So yah, that's why I'm going to be getting one :) I'm just going to hang onto my Wii though and see how the next few months are game wise and if I like mario, metroid, etc, then I'll end up keeping it. Otherwise I'll sell it.

Oh I also already have an Xbox360. If I didn't have a PS3 though, I'd be getting an Xbox360 over the PS3 no questions asked.

it is all up to you.

I did it...my Wii was collecting dust. So I sold it and took the money and got a PS3. If you are going to do it, now is the time while the Wii is still hot. I expect the Wii to drop in price a little by the holiday season so I sold it.

I had a 360 last year but got rid of it since I just didn't play it much. I decided on the PS3 over the 360 for HD movie playing and free online. Many games just can't be played right unless you play online and I didn't want to pay if I didn't use it much. (sports games were the main reason I would play online), other types of games I play on PC(FPS). And I just didn't want to pay $50 a month to maybe play a couple of months out of the year.

Personally I would keep the Wii. I know there are many more games coming out in the near future that interest me on the Wii than there are on the PS3. The extra features of the PS3 wouldn't add much as I don't have a use for them. You could, you know, try buying more games for the Wii.

I was in the same situation: I ownd a Wii and it started to collect dust after I beat Zelda. I sold it and grabbed a PS3.

RPG wise, it doesn't have anything with exception of Oblivion but almost everyone has played that by now. You can always play PS2 RPGs though if you never had a PS2 like me.

Wow! you all have been really helpful! That deal for the PS3 for $350 has to be the best deal ive seen! There really are not any more games for the wii that i have wanted up to this point, and i just saw that this new game for the PS3 only called "Angel Sword" or something close to that will be coming out soon. I think i will sell my wii and get a PS3. You all have really been awesome! thanks for the posts

Heavenly Sword is more of a combat game like God of War than an RPG.

Oblivion is a great game if you haven't already played it on the PC.

There are dozens of good PS2 RPGs you can play on a PS3 if you don't already have a PS2.

Blu-ray is sweet if you have a HDTV. Get netflix to rent instead of buy.

Reasons why you might want an xbox 360 instead:
- the new Premium with HDMI port uses the Elite's guts for lower failure rates
- Mass Effect from Bioware is coming out before the end of the year, also Blue Dragon (though it looks too kiddy for me)
- lots more shooters and some other good games like Crackdown and Dead Rising

Heavenly Sword? :D

I'd say that's a good decision. There are only a few games to keep you occupied right now, but expect many, many good games down the road.

Trading your Wii and stuff for a PS3 is not a bad idea. Although IMO if you end up selling the Wii and stuff I would hang on to the cash and wait for some more games to come before you purchase. In the end you might get a cheaper and more reliable system. Granted the $350 deal is nice if you want to chance the rebate/credit thing.

Either way I would never buy a system with little to no games you like and end up using it as a movie player till more games come. Your just wearing it out for when those 40+ hour RPG's come. But for some thats why the features are there(to use) so they do.

Eh I am going to have to diagree with you on some points ...

Thus far, the PS3 doesn't have any major known reliability issues. If anything, buying a PS3 now has more features than it will if he waits. Also, finding one as cheap as $350, in the PS3's entire life span, may never happen again.

Also watching movies won't 'wear" his system out at all. That is such a BS thing people bring up. I used my PS2 as a primary DVD player, until I got an Xbox and used that, and I now currently use my Xbox360 as a primary DVD player. I've used consoles as primary DVD players my entire life. This has never ever once had any negative effects on the systems.

And "chance" the rebate/credit thing? People in that thread alone have said they've done these same types of deals with the Sony Store before and got their credit back in far less time than the 8-12 weeks they claim. Not to mention, its no interest for 12 months.

Pre-order Heavenly here for $45 shipped with coupon NEWGWMEM for new members. I pre-ordered mine already, and these guys are reliable, I pre-ordered Ninja Gaiden Sigma and received it two days after the release date.

Also Warhawk is coming out in less than two weeks, followed by Lair and Heavenly Sword.

With all the Wiis being sold, I'd be shocked if devs didn't create more games of varying genres.

Warhawk is a multiplayer-only war game. It's going to see two separate releases on the PSN and on BD. I think the PSN version is $40, and the BD version with a Bluetooth headset is $60.

stuicidal - it's OK to "bump" an old thread back to the first page by adding a new reply. Just wait a reasonable amount of time between bumps (a half day to a day seems about right for a low-traffic forum like Consoles).

Do you already have a PS2?

Do you care about blu-ray?

If you don't already have a PS2 there are piles and piles of great games for you to play while you wait for more PS3 games. If you have a HDTV you can rent hundreds of 1080p blu-ray movies from netflix.

If you have a PS2 and don't have a HDTV, there isn't much reason to get a PS3 yet since you already have a 360.

I did have a PS2, but my brother took it to his house when he got married. So i am stuck without a playstation of any sort. I do not have th HDTV hookup for my 360, and i want to get the PS3 because "heavenly sword" is coming out on it. Also, in the next year or two kingdom hearts 3 comes out too. I do thank you though for your advice. :)
