Yikes. I'm almost 200 dollars over budget. I might lose the 2nd monitor and get it later though

I will be using this rig for Video Editing (Sony Vegas 5), Digital Graphics (Adobe Photoshop 7), and Compositing (Discreet Combustion 3). Also, I plan to get into 3D Modeling/Animation (Either Lightwave or Cinema 4D) and Premiere Pro in the future. I play almost no games, so gaming isn't a concern (The only two games I play are Chessmaster 8000 & GTA3)

A Couple of Questions:
Is the Power Supply Suffient Enough for My Rig?
I want to overclock the CPU slightly, maybe to 3.2 or something. Is the ram fast enough for this?
What about the MOBO?
Should I go from the Nec to the NU?. I've heard some bad things about the Nu.
Has anyone used the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro? I'm thinking about getting that indead of my current Mouse/Key but I'm wondering if the Wireless preformence will be good enough.

Also, Is there anything I'm missing?

Oh Yeah, and I'll be using my Old Soundcard for this system (Sound Blaster Live Value). This gives better sound than the onboard right?

Are you planning doing some video capturing or PVR functions. If not I would go for a 9800 Pro. I just got one for about 200.

Y

Since your working with a lot of video and graphics wouldn't u want to get a better graphics card?

Like What?

A Fire GL?

Edit:

Yes I was (Analog Catpure). Should I go for a seperate Capture Card then?

What ram speed is it? You only say Corsair and there are many speeds and qualities for the brand.
What about the MOBO?
Should be fine based on your OC desires.

Never used the NEC, so don't know. Just have plenty of spare batteries around for you wireless destop pro.

Most modern onboard sound is way better than that POS sound card you have (no offense, I have the same card and I hate it).

why partly zipzoomfly?
last i've checked the 2.8c @ newegg was 175$
80gig wd for like 65..
just buy everything at newegg
the 1gig ram is cheaper @ egg too

2.8C overclocked to 3.2Ghz = 228fsb ( Mild overclock for a 2.8C ) I think you will find that you can get more out of the chip if you so desire.

If you want to run the ram at 1:1 ratio, I would question using the Corsair Value Select DDR400. I don't think your chances are very good for stability using the 1:1 ratio with that ram at DDR456 even if you give it the 2.85 vdimm maximum for that board. You could use the 5:4 ratio which would put the ram running at DDR366 and possibly could run a little tighter timings than spec.

I would suggest that you consider the Fortron Source Power Supplies. The FSP350 or FSP400 have very stable rails and more than enough power for your needs. You might want to look at Power Supply Roundup AT did here.

The AIW 9600XT would be a much better choice for your usage. I personally have the AIW 9700 Pro but I purchased mine before the 9600XT was available. I do have dreams of upgrading mine to the AIW 9800 Pro very soon, as it would be even better. I just can't seem to believe that the extra $130 is price preformance wise.

Take a look at this ram.
Specs are CAS Latencies: 2-2-3-6 with only 2.5 vdimm for $199.
I bought this same ram and it has outperformed even my Kingston HyperX.
It also has a Lifetime warranty and no restocking fee's.

Great choice on the Graphics Card and PS.

Will the 350 PSU be enough for my system? I plan on added more internal hard drives in the future (2-3 More)?

If it were my system, I would get the Fortron FSP400-60PNU-R1. The PS in a system is one of the most important components and for the extra couple of $ it would be well spent. Even though the 350 will be plenty for your system, I prefer to have more than enough power on the +3.3/+5.0 combined rails and a little extra on the +12. The FSP400 has more power than you will need for your system even when you add more drives and it also has SATA power connectors.

just hope to god u never have to rma anything to zzf. they suck when it comes to cpu and mobo rmas. i just recently went through a tramatic experience with their RMA department. I was blatenlty lied to by the RMA tech twice, lied to by a sales manager. Finally, after a full week of deciet I got a hold of the RMA Manager and he made all right by sending me a new CPU and Mobo (after I had too yell and ask for my money back 5 times and say I am going to newegg).

am i the only one that giggled thinking of that odd combination??

"Hmmm. Knight to E3. Check." Pause. "And now to save the game, go carjack someone, pick up a hooker then run her over and take back my money when I'm done."

One More Thing:

Has anyone used the Kingwin KT-424-BK? Does it look good with plain black drives? (I was thinking I could save a few bucks on the drive faceplates)

Also (If no,), anybody know of where to find black silver floppy drive covers? (To match my case?)

if you are over budgeted, i suggest

1) using only 1 hard drive
2) get a cheaper case that comes with a power supply, there are antec cases that come with 350 watt power supplies for $70 that are good cases
3) unless you really have your heart set on the wireless desktop, get a cheap keyboard and a regular optical mouse
4) do really need a card reader that reads every kind of card? office depot had some for $5

by doin that, yu save yourself about $275

i built my friend a system last week comprable to yours and spent $1650 with dual 17" LCD monitors

1.) Two Hard Drives is a must for the stuff I do, One System and one for media. In fact, 4 Would be better if I could afford it (System, Capture, Edit, Render)

2.) Most of the cases I've looked at under the price of the Kingwin don't have all the features I want: No Front Door, Front USB + Firewire, No Window, Black or Aluminum, Rubber Gromits on the Drive Rails

3.) I'm thinking of that actually.

4.) The main reason I want the card reader is becasue: I need to read both Memory Stick and SD, I want the front Audio Jacks, I need the additional front USB & FireWire (The More the better for me)

Don't skimp on your case. You have selected a very good case with the Kingwin 424. I personally prefer the Lian Li cases just due to design, quality and availability of custom parts and accessories. IMO they also have better air flow and fan placement with front stock filters, blow hole, etc. But you will pay about $40 more for a case like the PC-6077.

Is dual Layer even useful? I already have two external HD's (80 x 2) for backups, so there's no need for DVD backups of my work.

And, there's no media to burn DL with. If I wait a few months, I can get a better deal on improved dual layer technology and have cheaper media to burn it with.
