Hey guys,

I just got a new laptop Toshiba Satellite 2805-S402 and I wanted to upgrade the memory inside. However, I don't know anything about laptop memory like what kinds there are and if there are any specific types of memory i have to buy for the model I have. If anyone could please give me some information bout what kind of memory to buy and maybe what are some good prices, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Go to crucial.com and use the memory selector tool.

Homer,

I actually purchased 1x128 mb chip of Kingston EDO Ram yesterday for my sister's Toshiba Satellite Pro 465CDX. This is a pretty old laptop, so i'm not saying you should get EDO, but I can tell you where to get it and how to get it for cheap. First of all, BUY.COM is having free shipping if you order by today, the 16th. Look into this. Go to Yahoo, and type in "Buy.com coupon", and find yourself a e-coupon to use. I spent about 5 minutes and found a 15 dollar coupon. I clicked on the link, it sent me to buy.com directly. Before you do this, though, you should find out what RAM your laptop needs. Go to www.kingston.com OR www.vikingcomponents.com. Use both websites' memory configurator to find out what memory you need. For my computer, I noticed that Viking was cheaper at buy.com even though it was the exact same manafacturers number as kingston (which is OEM for toshiba), meaning the same chip (not to confuse with brand number, viking and kingston use different brand numbers. I ended up buying the RAM from Insight.com, and will receive it in a couple days. It ended up costing 10 dollars more, but they accepted this 100 dollar Toshiba gift card i had, while i had no way of talking to a salesperson at buy.com (couldn't find a phone # anywhere on the site). I paid 162 dollars out the door, including shipping for 128 megs of Kingston EDO RAM. I think this is an EXCELLENT price :). My sisters laptop only had 1 Memory slot, the 32 megs standard was soldered on. So don't get confused like me, at first when i found out (after using memory configurartor on Kingston.com) that it only has one slot, i was thinking that means i'd have to remove the existing 32 meg chip and chunk it. Apparently, not so, the slot is empty, and the 32 megs is soldered on. Hope i thelps
