Questions about installing a Processor

I just got all the parts for my new computer from newegg today, and I'm busy trying to put it all together. The processor I got was a retail T-Bird 1333, and the mobo is the Epox 8k7a. I don't have any thermal compound/paste, because I was under the impression that it goes between the HSF and CPU, but on the connector for the cpu on the mobo there is a warning sticker. It says that I need to use thermal paste/compound to prevent damage to my cpu. Where can I get some, and how do I use it? Do I really need it? I'm not planning on doing any overclocking or anything
 
if it's a retail tbird, then your heatsink has goo on it already. you need to remove the protective tape from the heatsink, and then place it on the processor. arctic silver or a similar heatsink goo may work better, but the stock AMD heatsink goo works fine if you're not overclocking.
 
You should have some sort of thermal compound to act as a heat dissipator between the CPU and HSF. The stock HSFans have some sticky crap on them, but it's a one-time only application. If you're putting any other HSF on then you'll need some paste.
