so i think it'd be fun to learn how to shoot a gun... all i've ever done is paintball...

so i have a few questions...

anybody know of a good place to learn, in seattle? all i could find was this place. and could somebody take a look at those prices and tell me if they're on par with the norm?

any other suggestions, advice as to how to go about this, are welcome as well.

Remember a gun is not a toy. It is an important skill to have though. Make sure you learn how to use it properly.

eh, yea, i wasn't thinking of buying a gun... i just want to practice shooting one... if you just do target practice, i don't see why it can't be a source of entertainment. i mean, target shooting is a sport, after all.

The Handgun Safety Seminar is free, and it sounds like it would be right up your alley, but it requires you to bring your own gun, as do most such classes. Does a friend have one you can borrow?

Otherwise, inquire at your local gun stores. Mine, for example, is not far from Seattle, and has an introductory class that walks you through the basics. I have not taken it (I received this basic training from the Air Force), so I do not know whether it includes shooting practice, but at least it would probably get you sufficiently up to speed that you could safely rent a gun at a range and try it out.

<< hmm sounds good, thanks for the info :) >>

No prob. I had a very good experience at The Marksman in buying my Glock 17; they are very friendly and low-pressure. They have a nice range with a good selection of well-maintained rentals (including the Para LDA 7.45, which I now shamelessly covet).

Yes, it is Puyallup. I guess I don't think of it as far because I live in Tacoma and often drive up to Seattle to hang with friends.

I'm sure there are similar stores and classes in Seattle in any event.
