I posted this at another forum ... and was wondering AT users' feelings ...
----------------------------------

If someone gave up their retirement funds so that you could go to college ... would you expect a gift from them when you graduate?

If a family member of yours was undergoing a "not well in the head" phase/problem (clinical) ... would you expect a gift from them on a birthday, occasion, etc?

Do you get upset when someone who's loaded gives you a $4 Wal-Mart item?

I'll answer all of them with one statement:

I never expect a gift from anyone, and if I get one I am thankful.

See Bunker's reply.

Only once have I ever criticised a gift someone got me and here's the story:
Christmas. I had a whole Christmas list, including zounds of CDs that are easy to find in normal retail outlets like Tower Records.
The Tower Records nearest my house is 1/2 hour away, and it is nearly 90 minutes away from my school. I don't go there often, and I hate going there.
As they do on every Christmas, my mom exchanged wishlists with her sisters and they all went shopping and either bought my cousins something from their list, or a gift cert. to a clothing store they liked.
My aunt got me a gift certificate to Tower Records. I was annoyed b/c she had my list of CDs I wanted, and she drove all the way to Tower, she could have easily given the list to one of the people there and said "Find me one of these."
Instead she got me a GC and now I also had to drive all the way out there just to get one of the CDs that was already on my list to begin with.

So I was still "thankful" just kind of annoyed b/c she wasted both of our time by not just getting one of the CDs. My mom thought I don't like GCs, but it's not that. If you get me a GC to a clothing store, that makes sense--you don't know what I will like.
But a CD? When I give you a specific artist and album name?
