I agree with KarenMarie's statements as well as Anandtech Moderator's.

I agree with what you say. But my point was to the posters who were like 'shock horror, the thread was locked' because you guys are too buys, short staffed, whatever... to catch each and every one of them. Especially during the hours where there is not a mod immediately available. My post was not to try to spotlight the shortcomings of the mods. It was to try to explain that just because it looks like some get by, doesnt mean they are ok to post and will be allowed so it looks backwards when they do get locked.

They should have never happened to begin with. And the shock should be when one passes by, not when one gets locked. The view is skewed by some.

I agree but...
Just logging on in the morning and locking the threads is only half the issue. There needs to be vacations handed out. If the thread is worthy of a lock, someone is in need of a vacation. What's to keep it from happening time after time after time after time after time....?
Smack the little tard on the nose with a vacation and eventually you won't have so many threads to lock in the morning.

On another topic. I think KM brings some very reasoned and thought out logic to these forums. Her heart is in the right place an she cares about these forums. She would make a valuable asset to the forums as a Mod.

The OP, who's oh so innocently asking about rules, posted a parody thread this evening - knowing they get locked. Some folks just... don't... get it. :frown:

You've been here longer and have more posts. Why don't you become a mod? ;)

Besides, I consider all your lame "X vs. Y" thread to be neffing. Here's a few of those titles:

Badger vs Banana Phone
Scrambled Eggs vs Sunny Side Up Eggs
Bagels vs Toast
Hotdogs vs Hamburgers
(All three food posts were within one day of each other)
WOW vs Diablo II
NFL vs NBA vs MLB vs NHL

The majority of those are just within the past month or so. I can keep going if you want.

LMFAO

yeah okay...

You needed to have this pointed out to you, and others are upset that we mention immature members as a big part of the problem? I rest our case.

My tolerance for neffing/useless posts is too low. By the time I got done with this place you'd need to wear black tie to enter.

Wow a nazi! But even you couldn't enter after that. It might be quicker and less painful to just shut down the forums. :music:

You mean I don't need this tie?

They should just start 1 more forum, Neffer's Corner. Don't archive the threads, automatically delete anything over a week old. Posting in it doesn't raise postcount. Just give these people a place to goof off.

That is a good idea... Except I believe most threads should be deleted after a year anyway... Jason had mentioned that the database was over 30 gigs... That is just getting to be a monster. Exchange server only allows 13GB Priv1.edb file worth of data before it hits it limit... If this database is a single 30GB one... Yikes, corruption will hit easily and more frequent as time goes on.

I like this idea, but some people would probably tend to post in OT anyway just to up their post count. Maybe this forum and doing away with post count?

Well, that's not quite true, but that's not exactly the point of this thread :)

And yeah, OT was a really nice place once upon a time, we could discuss religion, current events(P&N or whatever), or just silly stuff, and while feelings certainly ran hot sometimes, it still worked out nicely in the end.
Now, OT is full of the kind of crap threads posted above, it's utterly useless for just about anything exceept raising your postcount.
Personally, I'll blame this on age, of the old timers(and by that I mean the people who were here before FuseTalk was introduced in 99), most are surprisingly old, many over 30 or even 40, kept the maturity level high.
I'd say the average age has dropped by at least 15 years in OT over the last 5 years.

Don't think there's any solution really, OT is lost and that's it.

I'll respectfully disagree with the theme of this thread, and that's an interesting statement...you seem to be saying that in the 'old days' 'silly stuff' was acceptable, but have a problem with 'silly stuff' today...

You can still have a perfectly civil and sensible conversation in OT, and as i've said before, if you don't like a thread, you don't have to click on it or post in it...and if you desire you can always go running to the mods ;)

At least we don't hurl buckets of abuse at each other like in P&N...I think that OT is still a very nice and friendly place, i'd have at least a dozen regular OT posters i'd call mates :)

Finally i'd note that a few of the people who are complaining about the 'death' of OT don't regularly contribute (positively or otherwise) there that i see...i'm glad you're taking such an interest but i think the majority of the people who regularly contribute don't share your pessimism.

It's just my 2c at the end of the day, but there it is.

EDIT:well it saddens me to see that what i said appears to have been ignored.
