I absolutely hate Coconuts so even after I heard about how great Coconut oil is for you, I kind of just ignored it. I decided to do some Googling on this lately and I found out about refined kind and that it has basically zero coconut taste - sweet! Then I read it's not nearly as good for you - shat 🙁 Then I stumbled on some people talking about how if you use it to cook something like chicken, the chicken will overpower the oil's taste and you won't even notice it. Chicken's one of the the blandest food I can think of without a ton of seasoning, would anyone here who has cooked chicken breasts with it care to give their opinion?

Also different sites I'm reading different things about how strong the unrefined stuff actually tastes. I know this is a thing that will vary to person to person. But on a scale of 1-10 how strong would you say the flavor is? And is there a brand that's less Coconutty? I was all set to go get the refined kind until I read how I might as well use Canola oil because when they refine it it pretty much nulls most of the benefits.

When you say you hate coconut, what kind of coconut are you referring to? Are you referring to coconut flavoring they put in drinks, or coconut flakes that have tons of sugar?

I can guarantee you that fresh coconut tastes absolutely nothing like coconut they use in candies, and the flavoring they use in drinks.

Also, it isn't that costly to get some coconut oil. Go down to WalGreens and get some, or go to the supermarket and buy a fresh coconut and break it open and cut off some of the meat.

And one more thing, you can rub coconut oil into your skin and your skin will absorb it.

Of course I don't know what benefits you are trying to get from it, or the difference between ingestion and topical.

There isn't a whole lot of research that backs the healthiness of coconut oil, let alone showing any differences between the expeller pressed (flavorless) vs other coconut oils. That being said, it's a great oil for cooking foods at high temps. If you're going to cook at low to moderate heats though, regular olive oil (not extra virgin) is probably the healthiest thing you can use. In addition, the healthiness of olive oil does have research backing it.

yes, unrefined coconut oil is excellent for you and a great oil to cook with or put in smoothies. man up and try it...no one but you can tell you whether or not you will like it or be able to tolerate it.
