Tantulums are nice flamers when they go. Smell up the place very bad too!

Nothing like the reverse pop of death of electrolytics! At least they give off a smell that's tolerable (honey roasted cheerios).

What size is your current cap physically? Digikey or Mouser probably has them in stock (just add .com to thier names to get the webpage)

Also, the "K" is the brand mark for "Kemet".

i can't believe you found the exact one. in any case, it's poorly designed because of the fragile metal connetor pieces. i couldn't solder it back on because those connectors simply fell off

which brings me to my next question, what does a capacitor do in a cellphone? i have been told that it clears up the statics in the transmission. this would explain why my phone is still functioning without it though. anyone has any ideas?

I've never had a problem with tantalum end caps coming off. They've held up under much more abuse than I've felt like they needed to. I chose the cap that I did because it was cheaper in low quantities :)

The capacitor is probably used in the power supply section.

Umm.. lol

So you're not going to solder it on......

How are you going to attach it? Tape? :p

There shouldn't be any problem with using a 470uF cap of any size, I wouldn't think... but obviously too big, and you won't get the phone back together.

Have you opened up a cell phone recently? I wouldn't want to try it... at least, not on a working phone. If it was one of those deals where if I messed up the solder job it was no big deal, sure, I'd give it a try.

The part itself is broken. The phone is already apart. The phone does not work.

ok got the capacitors today, unfortunately the contact points are very fragile tne the first two failed. managed to put the third one in without incidence. not sure if the capacitor is still in contact with the board since i had to jam it back in. oh well, praying for the best
