you do meet a lot of people living on campus; however you would save money living with one of your parents. if you do decide to live @ home, join a few clubs on campus if the social thing is of great concern to you.
 
live at home, but join the school clubs....that way, you can save money by living at home, and use that money to go out with the chicks meet at the clubs.

2 birds in one stone.
 
Live on campus, definately. Living with people in dorms is like living with a new family (except cooler, and with hot chicks). Meeting friends in clubs and stuff is ok too, but living with people is when you make life lasting friends.

Obvious exception is on campuses where there is NO housing or very limited. Since you're ALL living in your parents basements, you learn to chill in the student union/cafeteria. I'm going to a school like that... Kinda sucks when you think about it. They actually encourage you to show up and just hang out the first few weeks even when you don't have class. Apparently another big thing is to drive across town to the OTHER school and chill in THEIR dorms 😛

And think about morning classes.
I have a class at 8:30am. The day before I had a meeting til 10pm, drove back home to sleep, then had to commute back to school at 7am. Suck ass life I tell you.

That is certainly the truth. I really miss the dorms. I have another 2 years left for my undergrad and may stay in the dorms during grad school just top meet people (I don't go to bars, so I rarely meet anyone). I would move back in here if it were not for the fact that the campus essentially blocks everything but port 80.
 
live on campus, not only because you need to have friends and a somewhat healthy social life, but because you'll make friends you can lean on once you're out. Conversely, you'll be in a position to help them out as well...everyone wins! Even die-hard computer nerds hang out together instead of poking away at circuits in the closet. Plus, if you commute, every morning you'll wake up and go "ugh...I don't wanna commute", even if it's like a 20 minute walk or so. In the dorms, you'll probably trudge to class in small packs and that pack mentality makes it easier to go.

I commuted the later half of my undergrad(family issues) and it was a herculean effort to get going on my commute.

The school doesn't allow overnight parking.
I already got my sleeping bag in the car. Starting next week I will be a hobo and leech at frieds' home.


If you live outside the campus, you will be too depressed to join any clubs.
Yes I saved a lot of money, but money != happiness.
 
Live on campus for first year, meet people then live off campus for the three years afterwards.

BUT...while you stay in residence, GET YOUR OWN ROOM. Pay the extra $500 or $800 or whatever to get a single person room. Lots of people get kickass roommates but not everyone. Trust me. You will kick yourself in the ass (in all likelihood) when you get stuck with someone for the next 8 months who has highly annoying habits.

You'll still meet tons of people, just keep your dorm room door open (only while your inside of course) and people drop by. Go out all frosh week and party like crazy. Meet tons of people then everything is good. But get a single person room or you'll regret it.
 
I just finished my first year of an Honours BA at McMaster in Hamilton. I lived in a tiny-ass room with two other guys in an old residence.

As much as I HATED the lack of privacy(Before leaving for rez, I was off on a military course, slept at home for 4 days, and not to mention having to ask them to leave if you wanna fvck) I loved it. The people you meet, the experiences you have, cannot be had when living at home.
