Questions about a Dewalt combo set

Today i came across a Dewallt XR 20v brushless drill and impact driver set for $100. I was really wanting a good drill so this impact driver is just bonus but I am not familiar with it. What instances would I use the impact driver over the drill? The drill has a setting switch that is either1 or 2, what is this? There is also a dial setting that goes from 1-15, how exactly do I know which setting to use?

The impact driver is much faster for driving screws and can drive bolts that would stop your drill. The 1-2 are speed settings for the drill, and the 1-15 are torque settings to prevent over-driving screws.

Impact drivers make a crapload of noise and if you are not careful can damage cheap screws, but it will definitely drive thru anything that normally resists your efforts.
Same when using it as a drill. Lots of noise, might break cheap bits especially if you are careless, will do jobs a power driver won't.

I have never figured out exactly which setting to use on the torque collar.

If you dont want to risk damaging your screws, buy the high quality type that usually have a robertson or torx head.

Hillman makes good stuff.

The cheap sets of philips screws are horrible. Only use them for things you just dont care about, because they wont survive for very long and are a pain to get out besides.

I am needing to put some anchor points for straps in my enclosed trailer, what kind of screws should I use?

Impact drivers are awesome because they're far less likely to strip screw heads.

Sawyer, are you driving the screws into the frame or the panels? Or are we talking about the floor?

I don't think I've ever used an impact driver just a regular drill. I never have an issue driving screws with a regular drill though. On a side note I also bought a couple of Dewalt dcd777c2 drills and love them. Got them a couple months ago for a decent price off Ebay. I bought them to replace the B&D Firestorm drills I use at work and so far they have held up well.

It's a hell of a price. I'm pretty heavily into the DeWalt 20v ecosystem, that stuff adds up very fast.
