Questionable Emails

So I sign into Gmail and I have two emails in my inbox that catch my eye in particular. One is from "Washington Mutual" and the other is from "PayPal." Now I don't have a WM account nor do I have a PP account, so I click with further curiosity to see what the eff is up. To my surprise, the WM one says my account will be suspended on Jan 10 if I don't click this link because there have been several attempts from different IPs to log into my account. What account?

The PayPal one is pretty much the same thing. Checking for fraud blah blah various IPs attempting to get into it.

Is this some kind of a scam or something? I didn't click either link figuring it was safer not to with Windows security being what it is.

If you do not have a Paypal Account or a Washington Mutual acount, they are scams. And probably would be even if you did.

paypal will never email you regarding your password or personal information.

If you don't have a WM account... then go ahead and give them your "credit card number" and "PIN" from "Washington Mutual" so they can waste their time.

Haha they didn't ask for it, but I'm assuming that's what the link is. I'm disappointed, I thought Gmail would have better protection against phishing.

It's totally legit. You simply forgot you had those accounts. I bet there's tons of money stashed there and waiting for you.
