Questionable camera angle Obama first pitch at All-Star game

I was watching the game last night with a slight buzz (margaritas) but I noticed the odd camera angle used for President Obamas first pitch. You could not see if the ball made it to the plate or if it was a strike.

I wonder if the White House didn't want the entire pitch shown if Obama threw it into the stands or into the dirt. They did show the traditional behind the pitcher angle replay but it shows Puljous saved the throw a little.

I also noticed some boos. I think Missouri went for McCain. Driver for Stan Musial looked angry to see Obama. Wonder of the Secret Service background check involved digits??

It shocked me a little Fox went along with it since their history has been antagonistic towards Obama.

Also I wonder if the Fox News talking heads will elevate this to the level of teleprompter-gate.

I was gonna make a joke about how his throw made for a good analogy of his presidency, but that required too much effort.

The boos were because he was wearing a white sox jersey...the game was at the cardinals stadium...they have some sorta rivalry

Every politician that has EVER appeared at a sporting event has gotten their share of boos. Party is irrelevent.

I guess maybe the one exception would be Rudy Guilliani at Yankee Stadium right after 9/11.

Besides, whether his pitch was a strike or not, it was definitely better than the Mayor of Cincinnati's pitch:

I always wonder is it really that hard to throw a pitch 60 feet?

I can understand much older people trying it and have problems. Other than Dubya every president seems well suck at it. Yeah they have better things to do but are they all that bad

Have you ever tried throwing off a mound? You don't think it'd be hard until you get up there and realize its an angle you've never tried throwing from before. Its why a lot of people will stand in front of the mound to do their ceremonial pitch. Not because of the distance, but because its a flat throw.

yea, representing chicago (cubs or sox) in st.louis wasn't exactly going to garner him loud cheers. I don't think anyone should read very much into it.

don't forget to strap on a bullet proof vest for added difficulty

I'm 40, and haven't done it since high school. I'd probably really suck at it too, along with pretty much anyone else my age or older who hasn't been playing sports consistently as an adult.

Yes I've thrown off a mound before. that's why I ask is it really that hard.

Granted I don't have control like the pros or can throw as hard but can make it. By my estimation all my throws are hangers and will be crushed with ease.

Ha, a White Sox fan. Is that to get the trash vote in Chicago?

Or maybe he didn't want to wear his Cubs jersey because the boos would have been louder.

1ft tall mound at 60ft distance is an extremely acute angle. plus its supposed to give you an advantage. thats 20yds. if you can throw a football 20yd you better damn well be able to throw a baseball that distance.

I'm hardly an Obama fan and this is much ado about nothing. I'm more concerned about the government health plan they are trying to ram through Congress, the cap and trade bill that has been rammed through the House, and the non-stimulating spendulus bill to be concerned whether or not Obama can get the ball over the plate at an All-Star game.

I have, and never had an issue with it. Granted I pitched ever since day one in baseball. I can see where pitching full speed is a ton different between flat and mound, but they are just lobbing it in there. They aren't doing anything fancy, or even doing a wind up. Maybe I'm underestimating the strength of my arm, but I can throw that distance flat footed and not take any steps.

I always promised myself if I somehow got the chance to throw a first pitch I'd throw a nasty curveball, haha. FWIW I'm only 23 so it's still attainable. As I get older that dream will become less of a possibility. 🙁
