Does the toshiba satellite PSM40U-07X001 Laptop have a video card slot, or just the integrated graphics chipset? I tried to look it up but didn't get a definite answer, I was curious because I was looking in the system under hardware and somewhere under devices I saw PCI-Express. So yeah, just wondering.

Edit : under device manager and system devices it says Intel(R) 8280 1FB/FBM PCI Express Root Port - 2660 and there is another one that says 2662

Yup. I'm in the same boat, got a Dell without any gfx card because Grandma surprised me instead of asking what exactly I wanted; it's an otherwise nice machine, but I do wish I had a slot to stick something in later when its age is beginning to show.

I suppose, if you have mad soldering skills, that you can try to add in your own PCIe slot along with all the capacitors etc.

That might be for other devices. My laptops(older) show pci devices, but I have integrated gfx.

You hit the EDIT button and if you EDIT the original post, you can change the Title and Summary as well.

For others that are looking: the laptop model is Toshiba Satellite M45-S2652.

The fact that you have a PCI-Express controller does not in any way indicate you have a discrete video card. Your system may have integrated video that operates over the PCI-Express bus but is not removable. The other PCI-Express root port is most likely for the ExpressCard slot included on some members of the M45 series.

If you don't already have discrete graphics, I'd highly doubt it.

If all else fails, pull out the manual and a screwdriver and see for yourself if there's a PCIe connector in there.
