Question...

Could you live in the US for ~$7000 a year ? I ask this becuase this is what many overseas tech people make. I don't want this turning into a flame war, so I didn't post in P&N. I mean the population as a whole.

A little less than comfortably

Nope. I don't really care about saying, but I like to post things about the students I teach and don't want to take the chance that one of them frequents ATOT, so I just keep mum about it. 🙂

$7K/year? Sure. Studio apartments go for $300/month, assume another $200/month in utilities... eat 3 meals of the cheap ramen everyday, $23/month... some clothes, TP, internet access, another $100/month...

Works out to around $623/month or $7,476/year. I guess you could sell $476 worth of bodily fluids per year, right? Or participate in medical testing or something.

Sure, it's possible.

Of you course it depends on where you live.
Maybe you can if you
1. Keep housing expenses down to less than $100 a month,
2. Use mass transportation
3. Eat a lot of beans and rice
4. Buy second hand

I used to work for the HEADSTART program, a federally funded pre-kindergarten program.

Concidering the type of people that we served (the poorest of the poor with children) $7000 was a lot.

Mean salary for a basic nuclear family hovered around 10k/year.

<---product of the program himself and turned out just fine....

$7,000 a year is pretty damn low... I couldn't live on that cause while I'm not rich, I'm accustomed to some of the finer things in life, like my PC 😀
