I need to upgrade my RAM. Here are my specs so you can hep me out better

Athlon 800mhz
Biostar VIA chipset
128MB PC-133 SDRAM
Windows XP Pro

My question is:
Will 256meg (just one slot...gonna get rid of 128) of pc-133 SDRAM CAS2 be faster than 384 (128meg and 256 meg) of CL3?

What other combos are good?

Please take into consideration what is best for my system.

THANKS

Have you tried running (overclocking) your current CAS 3 stuff to CAS 2? Some RAM can do this and some can't. Whether 256 MB at CAS 2 is faster than 384 at CAS 3, depends on what you are doing with it. If you are using software that needs lots of RAM, then the more you have the faster it will be. If you are using lots of apps that need quick shots of smaller amounts of RAM, then the latency could be more important. I personally would buy the CAS 2 stuff and pop it in with the CAS 3 and see if you are stable and if it helps. Then take out the 128 MB and see if there is a noticable change in performance.

As long as you didn't get generic RAM, it's pretty safe to run it at CL2. That's still overclocking... but Crucial etc. RAM will run CL2.

OUA ! Please don't mix generic memory (even if it can run at CL2) with crucial ram.
Its bad... very very bad (like in Seinfeld with the pakistan man !!! ;) )... i tried... then sold my old ram next day !
Now its working very good.

Thor !
