my friend has a job opening at his work and it is for a "systems analyst". the description was kinda vague so i was wondernig if anyone here knows of a good definition. thanks!
It's a very broad term, and can do any number of tasks.
Traditionally, a system analyst would be the go between for end users and the software/hardware engineers. They basically take in all of the end user needs, and then develop a rough sketch of a system and then present it to the software/hardware engineers. And from there on act as a liason between the two fronting questions and helping with the overall implementation.
I'm learning some of this stuff at school. From what I understand, systems analysis is a tough job, but you don't really do anything. And it's boring as hell
Identifies individual components of a system (social and/or technical) and looks at how they work together, how processes can be made more efficient, etc. Usually uses tools such as data flow diagrams (or other stuff you might find in Visio).
I'm gonna get serious again. It's just a fancy title for "company computer bitch". A systems analyst is going to work with development projects and this can be software or hardware based. If your friend wants more information about the position, he should go ahead and apply and see if he can find out more info if he makes the cut... Just because he interviews doesn't mean he has to accept their offer if they like him. Tell him to find out what their definition of systems analyst is.
I second that... at least that's what I do. I just got promoted from Systems Analyst to Support Specialist, though. Things might be about to change... hmmm longer coffee breaks.
