Surf the Internet for information on topics that will let you do your job (or a different one) better.

Anyone who lets their skills become dated or obsolete will likely soon have even more free time on their hands.

i setup expts in the lab and then while i wait for them to finish i'm here in the forums checking out what to upgrade to next. with everything so automated i seem to be doing a lot of waiting around while expts are in progress.

we see a "lock out, tag out ,try out" video at work about every 6 months. There have been numerous guys who have been killed here for not taking 2 minutes to make sure the equipment their working on is not energized.

take it apart
put it back together
test that it still works by posting on ATOT and running your favorite distributed computing client software on it for a day
put it back where you found it

build small LAN's out of spare pc's/switches
make them do stuff
put the stuff back

install alternate OS's on spare pc's to see if you can figure out how to do it
reinstall windows cause nobody in the whole friggin company has a clue how to use anything but winders/OFfice

or i walk back and forth looking at equipment as though i was maintaining it

sometime i help the other people, but theyre stupid jerks and i dont like most of them, so bah to them all
