when you are at a stop light, do you put your car in neutral and just step on the brake, then when the light goes green hit the clutch, shift to 1st, and go.

OR
do you leave car on 1st, step on both brake and clutch, when light turns green, just go??

Normally, I put the car in neutral, and put my foot on the brake pedal till the light turns green jjyiz28 :)

Depends. If I'm sitting there a while, I shift it into neutral. Otherwise, just leave in first and have the clutch in.

Yep. Less effort to just have one foot on the brake;) Sometimes I won't even hold my foot on the brake (bad I know)

<-- Lazier then you'd care to know.

I don't drive yet, but I can picture my self putting it into neutral before the intersection and braking. Then put it in first when it hits green

same

Exactly. If you know the light is gonna change relatively soon why keep it in neutral? Go ahead and have it ready in 1st.

i ask because for me i leave it in gear when hold the clutch in. this is when i drive my friends car. my own car is an automatic. i guess i do this cuz im not totally comfortable driving stick out of 1st gear yet.

i guess if i get a stick car, and get more comfortable, i could easily leave it in neutral.

I put my foot on the cluth and break, and just shift into first sometime before the light changes. It really doesn't take much effort to hold the clutch down and in fact I'm used to it enough now that it basically takes no effort.

At a red light I have the car in neutral and my foot on the brake. I wait until the light changes before I put the car in gear. This way I give the person running the red light time to get through the intersection.
