Question to people who know anything about plumbing or tubes...

We just got a new fridge, and we bought a new water connector because he sold it to us...it was cheap, but thats not the point. I asked the guy wtf he didn't use that for and he said because there already was one from the old refrigerator.

Our old refrigerator was 10 years old. Should i be worried about using a connector that old on this new fridge? They better give me my fucking money back for the tube though.

I wouldn't be concerned, but obviously a new connector would have been better. Since you paid for the new connector, I would definitely demand money back, or tell the guy to install the new connector (at your convenience, his expense).

Thanks...i will probably just ask for my money back. Would i notice anything different if it's not working properly?

I know lots about tubes. The intersne is fullz of themz!!!!

But...what kind of "tube"? Is it PVC, rubber, copper, what?

going to assume that the kit u got is an ice maker connecting pack... unless it cost $1mm, it makes sense to replace your 10 year old plastic tubing with new stuff... plastic lasts 1000 years in the landfill, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't get a little crispy and split in time...

If the tap or ice maker isn't working, you'll know. At absolute worst, you would notice a leak. If the connector isn't clean, you might get a unpleasant taste. Either way, it will be obvious if it's not working properly. I really wouldn't worry, though.

It was a white PVC bendy one that we bought. The old one looks similar except its thicker and dark green. Seems higher quality but i dunno if any of this even makes a difference. It was like 5 bucks, so i may not bother in the end...but it's just the principle 😀

This connector wouldn't be the cause of ice machine failure, would it? That's my only real concern.

Wow! Blowing a blood vesel over $5.00.

The old tube may work just as well however the old fittings may fail & leaks, and by installing new parts make your guarantee/insurance that much more kosher.

Only if the connecter were damaged in some way ie cross threaded, corroded, etc.
Best bet is to make the connection and turn the water on with the fridge away from the wall so you can see if there are any leaks. No leaks = push refrigerator in place and enjoy!

BTW, I worked for THE TUBES. Does that count? 😎

Good deal, okay. There are no leaks.

Btw, i'm not blowing a blood vessel, i just dont know what can and cant damage something i spend tons of (to me) fucking money on. Just making sure everything will work and stay working heh. But no one else agrees that it's kind of retarded that they just didn't use the new one?

OH no, I'm with you on that. New connectors are always a good thing, unless the worker replacing it is less skilled than the original installer. It's the H(uman) Factor that screw it up.

Didn't know they were still around.

Depending on the age of the plastic tube, i would consider replacing it. Plastic doesn't always age well. better to replace it now then after it leaks.

I wouldn't worry about it if it's copper and in good condition. I would worry about it if it's plastic or braided.

seems like its greenish...thicker than pvc pipe. Not very long either, it's pretty short. The water is running fine. Most people say to just leave it alone and that it'll probably be fine.
