ok, the keyserver hands out units to be checked. does this mean that only one user will recieve each unit? what im getting at, is there the possibility that if someones client recieves a unit but then the person decides they dont want to continue with the cracking, and therefore dont flush their units, will this unit never be handed out again? is it possible that someone may have found the correct key but haven't sent the work back to the keyserver? or is each unit handed out to a number of users and therefore some units are being cracked more than once by different people?

hope someone can make sense of what i have just written :)

that's not a bad question, Gorgonzola. The keyserver hands out WUs in the form of blocks. If it does not receive those back in 90 days, it "recycles" them as we say, and sends the same Wus outa again.

Gorgonzola:

There's one other thing too, if someone leaves a cow to run out of blocks (ie nothing left in the buff-in and it doesn't have OGR units to work on) it'll start doing randoms ie random keys from all over the keyspace. If someone does a key you're working on and submits it before you do they'll be credited for the work. This is VERY rare tho' since the keyspace is a VAST HUGE bloated thing in the first place, but it could happen.

Rest assured.. this will never happen, because these randoms are selected from assigned "random" slices of the keyspace, not from "all over".

Here's something important about randoms tho!!! You MAY get credit for some of the randoms you do, but in mine, and countless other people's experience here, YOU WILL RECEIVE NO CREDIT FOR MOST RANDOMS. Believe me on this, i have cracked 20k randoms and only gotten credit for at the most 1k :(. Do all you can to avoid randoms. You can buffer more if you need to. And if you have a LAN, you can run your own personal proxy server, which is a great way to go!!!

Thanks for joining the team and everything! If you need any more info or have any more questions, please just ask. There will always be someone around to answer for you :D
