My burner (Ricoh MP7040 + Adpatec EZCD 4.0) doesn't seem to have a problem co-existing with the dnet client.

I am trying to recruit a few peeps, and want to give them the straight scoop.

Is there any known issues with any burners (Plextor w/ burnproof in the specific) operating while dnet is running?

edit : man, i can't type today

It should be fine. I don't think it would contribute to making coasters. I've only had one program ever thats conflicted with the cliet.

Dnet runs as the lowest priority thread, so it won't steal resources from anything else. I have naver had problems burning while running dnet. Most burner software will give itself high priority when burning, but you can also do it manually if you're running NT/win2k or XP.
Either way, I've personally never had any problems.

I do it all the time... I have the client running on every one of my machines, and two of them have burners and I've never had a problem.

I've done it at home with a phillips burner and Adaptec Easy CD Creator. I've done it at work with an HP Burner and the crappy HP software. Never had problems at either place.

Running HP 12x at work on AMD TBird 800 with Nero 5.5, no probs.

If in doubt, right-click on cow and select PAUSE, then RESUME when burn is complete!

But, don't forget to resume!!! ;)

Running a SCSI HI-VAL CD burner in a Compaq Deskpro PIII 733, no problems whatever. I thought I had some problems with a YAMAHA SCSI burner, but it turned out that the burner was flaky and going bad. Replaced it and haven't had any problems at all. :D

I run it as an NT service on a work machine and that pc has a Plextor 12x10x32. It has yet to burn a coaster. :)

General tips:

Put the burner on a different channel than the burning source.
Defrag that drive if possible before burning (even on fast drives, a highly fragmented drive can cause problems at higher burning speeds).

Don't run RC5 or S@H on old computers while burning. The time it takes for a context switch between threads appears to be too much (not to mention the fact that some of them are just barely fast enough to burn without anything running.

I have made coasters...but none were due to RC5 (they were all due to my stupidity ;) )

If you have a situation like the one BurntKooshie mentions with old puters, you could add the burner program to the clients pause-watch list. In that way the client will pause when running the program and resume when the program is terminated.

<edit>And no, I haven't had any problems with using Dnet client and burning at the same time. Except for those situations where I have had a cpu overheating due to full load, unfortunately in the middle of a write (and no, BURN-Proof couldn't save it :D but that's another story ;) </edit>

I have Dnet running on a Celeron 400 at work, and have never had a problem burning CD's. Should have no problems, especially if your computer is faster.
