Question Regarding WPA Encryption

Nevada

Senior member
I recently purchased a Netgear 54Mbps Wireless Router and PCMCIA card kit. I have enabled WPA encryption on my wireless network. On my laptop, I have noticed that it takes almost 30-45 seconds before the card picks up my wireless network. Is there any overhead attributed with using WPA encryption. I know it is trying to negotiate the key and etc. The connection to the network is almost instant when encryption is disabled.

I couldn't tell you about overhead but all of the wireless cards I've used with my Netgear G router with WPA connect easily within 10 seconds. Maybe there's something wrong?

how is the signal quality? maybe theres some interference? btw, remove the REG program from your startup group and reboot. afaik it does nothing but screw things up.
