my friend has a laptop with win2k but when i try to get to a shared folder it asks for a password my friend doesnt think he put a password in it but we can find out where to change it.thanks for the help in advance.

W2K is not like W9*, no passwords for a share.

Have him create a user (Computer Management, System Tools, Local Users & Groups, Users, right click - New User.)
Now, give the New User access to the share. (Still in Comp Mgmt: Shared Folders, Shares, sharepoint - Properties, Share Permissions tab, click Add, select New User, grant rights, click OK a few times.

He should log on as administrator, share the folder, assign permissions/rights and users. You would then have to access the folder using an account(user name, like "guest&quot😉 he has assigned permission to do so.

RustyNale - nice sig =😱

Good point about the local admin. I forgot about that part. I prefer to not enable the Guest ID, but that's just my normal paranoia.
