Question regarding Vonage

Ok ... putting together a company and I have a little dilemna in regards to advertising my phone number as a means of contact. Obviously it's very important and I need to find a way to get calls at my current job. I have a FT job during the day time, but my office is in the basement. No freaking signal whatsoever and I don't have a direct number to my office phone.

So, instead of having everyone leave a voicemail, I was looking into vonage. Is it possible to bring the box that they give you, plug it into our network at work and then be able to receive calls? i'll just take it with me to work and when I'm home I leave it on.

Yes, that would work provided you have the proper ports forwarded to the ATA.
In your situation, why don't you just use call forwarding after a few rings?

ok good ... call forwarding to where? If I had reception I would answer all calls on my cell.
I can't forward them to my workplace because a secretary answers all calls and then transfer them to my extension.
so it wont sound professional when she answers it with our school name.

Yup, I have packet 8 and you can take the box anywhere in the world and your calls will right through, as long as you have a decent connection

If we ever move to Australia (and get broadband down under) that's what I'm doing.

Establish VOIP service here in Portland, Oregon with 503 area code, take VOIP phone with us to Australia, plug it into broadband receive calls made to our 503 number in Australia 🙂
