I've been reading around in hotdeals, and people say they are getting billed on their ccs for the "Free" subscriptions even though they didnt enter their CC #.

How does the mag company obtain their cc info?

Will i get billed if i tried that and i don't even own a cc? Or if someone other than me has made a past purchase using a cc on my computer?

thx, me scared

It is bullsh!t.

You cannot get billed on a CC without your consent.

If they try to bill you, you can get a chargeback easy peasy.

i don't sign up for free mags if they ask for CC#

i've currently get Stuff, Gear, Playboy, Computer shopper & some other computer mags for free just by filling out surveys that take less than 5min

what if the mag company tries to bill you? like you know how they have those little cards, and you can check off "bill me later"? what if they try to say that you asked for that? is there some kind of protection against that?

write "CANCEL" on the bill they send you and send it back. i had this happen to me once and they would continue to send me issues. so i wrote a nice little note with the next "cancel" bill i sent back. basically i said, "i never ordered your magazine, i don't want your magazine, and frankly if you continue to send me invoices, i will consider it harassment and will forward all information my attorney." never recieved another bill. :)

Ok, i have a theory on how they can "legally" bill you w/o your consent:

Since it asks for a certain code, and everyone on the hotdeals says to ignore the code, i think it is just one of those "sign up for a subscription thingys". You have to enter the code if you want it for free, otherwise its like a normal magazine subscription, and they'll bill you on your address? or what i just said is bs?
