Question regarding SATA power connector

Just had my hand on the new SATA drives and realized they have a new power connector layout.

Anybody knows the reason why they requires/recommends such new connector? Any benefit on using the new one versus the conventional molex 4 pin? Thanks.

your are moyherboard support SATA??or use SATA contal,the power cable use adapter connet(is 4pin)

It's on-board. Actually a Dell Dimension 8300.

My two (IDE) hard drives are connected to my mobo via sata adaptors for both data and power.

It seems to me that power = power regardless of the configuration of the connector.

Those old molex connectors however can be a pain in the butt.
