Question regarding ipod radio transmitters

I have an itrip hooked up to my ipod and in the manual it asks me to keep the volume on the ipod within 50%-75%, but at 100% the range is far better. Would it do any damage keeping the ipod's volume at 100% all the time, or would it just drain my battery faster? Thanks.

How can increasing deviation increase range? This is FM not suppressed carrier AM or SSB. Increasing the volume does NOT increase range in the realm with FM. Too much deviation will cause distortion - the transmitter's automatic limit control (ALC) will clip the peaks and distort the audio horribly. Not surprisingly, most metalheads and pop junkies hardly notice. If it's loud, it's good. :laugh:

I put the volume at 75% then walked away from my radio and the sound went out faster, when I upped the volume to 100% and I stood further away, it was still audible.

How far away does it have to be?

You could probably build a cheap 1 or 2 watt amplifier and use its output to drive a 100+ W 2 meter amp tuned to 88-108 range. Pirate radio station!

Well, I need the transmitter to work from the front of my car and hit the antenna in the back end of the car. I like your idea of building a cheap amplifier and I just remembered that my physics teacher knows how to build things like this, he builds stuff like this so maybe he can help. Thanks for the recommendation.
