Question Regarding HD

So lets say someone has a High Def capable monitor- ie 23" Apple Cinema HD.

If the HD display was hooked to a computer, lets say a powerbook or g5, and watch some DVD movie on it- are you getting the HD signal? ie. Are you watching the movie in HD...?

Or is there some other hardware requirements on the DVD or PC end of the whole scheme?

A bit of a noob on video related topics... thought one of you guys might be able to help out.

Thanks!

The computer would be upsampling the DVD feed (which is usually ~720x480 pixels) to the appropriate output resolution. But it's not truly "high-def", since you don't have a high-resolution source to start with.

dvds are never in hd. the resolution just isnt there to begin with. to watch true hd you can use a few things: hdtv tuner, wmv-hd dvd or .ts files (transport streams)
