Question regarding Flashing a BIOS?

I have an REALLY old HP 6370Z that has a ASUS P2B98-XV motherboard with a Intel PII 350. Currently it has a Phoenix BIOS and on ASUS website they offer an AWARD BIOS ver. 1010. My question is am I able to flash the bios that is being offered on the ASUS website which is an AWARD bios even though I currently have a Phoenix bios now? If I try it can I recover my system if the new bios fails?

I think I remember Awards website covers this, since it was merged with Phoenix or something like that.
