I know I've read of modems and hardrives that can be "upgraded" through firmware, like from 33.6 to 56k or from ata66 to ata100, etc...

Does anybody know if you can get a firmware upgrade for a USR/3Com Sportster 33.6 internal fax modem or a Western Digital 273BA?
 
Good place to check would be 3Com's website or WD's website. Do searches in the Support seconds, Download sections, and via the standard engine on your model.
